How to Prepare Your Swimming Pool Before the Hurricane?

Home Improvement

If you are unfortunate to live in an area that is prone to hurricanes, then having a fresh water pool has many advantages. One major one over a traditional chlorine or salt or mineral pool is that you don’t need to use chemicals to shock your pool. We advise you to increase the copper and silver ions into the pool water to increase the sanitization effectiveness of the Quest Q1.

Most pool dealers will tell you to add chlorine to your pool in anticipation of the water being diluted due to the rain. It’s not needed with a fresh water pool system such as the Quest.

The following are the logical and obvious precautions to take. However, some people still require guidance.

Pre hurricane::

1. Prepare the outdoor area and not just your outdoor swimming pool. Make sure you don’t empty the pool. The filtration system will take care of this. It’s advisable to turn the power off to the pool. Your Quest sanitizer will still be sanitizing the pool even with the pump switched off.

2. Make sure all your outdoor equipment has a circuit breaker or some sort of electrical safety device fitted.

3. Remove all loose items from the pool area. Anything that is not tethered should be , if this is not possible, bring those items inside.

4. Make sure the filter equipment is empty. This will be needed if excess water is deposited in and around the pool area. You don’t need extra blockage from debris.

5. Don’t use a pool cover. If you try covering, they will cause issues. The wind may rip the cover and in some cases could damage or even lift the cover or the winding mechanism.

After the hurricane, hopefully most of your backyard will still be intact and not too much damage. You now need to collect any debris in your pool . Turn back on the power to your sanitization system. If you are using just chlorine add more chlorine , if you are using a salt water chlorinator , a magnesium or potassium mineral pool system , then add more chemicals. If you are using a fresh water pool system, then simply turn up the ionizer and oxidizer to full power and run for twenty-four hours.
